This charming and intimate show is considered by many to be one of the most underappreciated musicals ever written. The story of two feuding clerks in a 1930's European parfumeire who don't realize that their anonymous romantic pen pals are each other, She Loves Me is based on the play that also inspired the movies "The Shop Around the Corner" and "You've Got Mail" and features a heart-warming score from the composers of Fiddler on the Roof.

Operetta-flavored, jewel-box musical

Like finding a heart-shaped box of scrumptious bon-bons under your Christmas tree

Sweet violin strains highlight an effervescent overture, sending instant notice that something special is in store. This 1963 operetta-flavored, jewel-box musical from composer Jerry Bock and lyricist Sheldon Harnick (Fiddler on the Roof) premiered in an era of splashy blockbusters and was largely overlooked. Its durable virtues are quite evident in Musical Theatre West's production, which is greatly satisfying

Faultless, well-cast new production plays to the show's strengths

Musical Theatre West's faultless, well-cast new production, directed by Jamie Rocco, plays to the show's strengths. With William Forrester's painterly set and crisp costumes by Todd K. Proto, the production has a music-box spring in its step. In the lead romantic roles, John Bisom and Teri Bibb make an attractive screwball pair. The show's generous character parts are fully realized by bottle-blond Christina Saffran Ashford, suavely unseemly Stan Chandler, sidekicky Ira Denmark and fusty Nils Anderson. A crack chorus bustles winningly.

A Nice - and Simple - Romantic Comedy

There's something charmingly old-fashioned about the musical "She Loves Me." There's no cynicism, like in "Urinetown." There's no raunch, like in "Rent." And there's no pretension, like in "Ten Commandments." It's fluffy and sweet, but not too sweet, and the cast is not so huge that individual faces are lost.

She Loves Me" Light, Lively Love Note

What fresh heaven is this? A sweet and lively production of "She Loves Me," at Musical Theatre West, directed and choreographed by Jamie Rocco. Even though the story is a no-brainer, you still wish you were the me or the she of the pronouns of the title. Valentine's Day comes early in this story about the vagaries of love that occurs in the 1930s, before chat rooms, and before you not only had to speculate as to the appearance of your pen pal but their gender, age, criminal rap sheet and species as well.
