This
epic musical by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens (ONCE
ON THIS ISLAND, SEUSSICAL) paints a nostalgic
and powerful portrait of America in the early 1900's.
Based on E.L. Doctorow's distinguished novel, Ragtime
intertwines three distinct stories that poignantly
illustrate history's timeless contradictions of wealth
and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair,
and love and hate. Flaherty's diverse score draws
upon traditional Jewish folk sounds, vaudeville, and
jazz, and won the Tony Award for Best Score in 1998.

'Ragtime'
is worth your time

in the first decade of the last century lived much
the same way. Putting food on the table, washing clothes,
enjoying music and art É those are all part of life.
Historic contemplation is for the next generation.

'Ragtime'
Provides Substance, Style
Bryant's
production is larger than life. His achievement was
to keep the song and dance numbers from overwhelming
the story.
He
succeeded wildly - it entertained, it told a story,
it offered up moral teachings and gave us a history
lesson. Think "Sesame Street" for the Gilded Age.
