This rarely-seen gem of a musical follows one of America's Founding Fathers as he travels to France to secure the King's support in the Colonies' war against Britain.
This show (with two songs ghost-written by Jerry Herman of ) was Robert Preston's first star vehicle following his triumph in The Music Man and is a charming period piece.
The show is also an interesting companion piece to MTW's production of 1776, as Ben Franklin in Paris continues the story of America's fight for Independence.

What's a staged reading?
Staged readings are performed with script in hand using minimal staging and choreography. Limited props and costume pieces are used, allowing the imaginations of the audience to take over. Staged readings are the perfect way for audiences to enjoy a show from yesterday or be introduced to a new piece of musical theatre.
|
THE REINER READING SERIES:
Celebrates and preserves musical theater as an art form by exposing audiences to works of that might otherwise not be produced.
Through the minimalism of the staged reading format, we are inviting the audience and the artists to use their senses and imagination to explore and enjoy the entire range (both in style and era) of this diverse genre, including lesser-known shows by noted composers, as well as noted shows by lesser-known composers. |
